You might want to sit down for this, because today I have been using mostly BROWN fabric to make a cushion *shudder* ;-). I probably don't need to point out that it is not for me, but for my favourite SIL who loves all things dull natural.
I decided on a simple plus layout and picked 10 brown FQ's from the December's Pink Castle stash stack and mixed in some neutral greys and creams.
Quilting was kept simple with a crosshatch and now I just need to make the zippered back and sew it up.
It is not often my sewing matches the weather, but I have to admit I kinda like this cushion, shhhh don't tell anyone ;-)

Oh I like it too - A LOT!!
ReplyDeleteI actually love it. And you have never thought to do a brown quilt at all. Nice one.
ReplyDeleteok, I happen to be one of those rare ones that loves brown! I like it!!
ReplyDeleteI usually feel the same way about brown - but I LOVE your cushion! :)
ReplyDeleteI also have an aversion to brown (not chocolate you'll understand), but this is lovely! : )
ReplyDeleteIn defence of brown, I think it's an indispensable colour in my quilt stash and don't understand the aversion to it. Granted it can look a little, well, 'brown' on its own but mixed in with other colours it brings a real depth and warmth. IMO!
ReplyDeleteSomeone get Hadley the smelling salts!! It does look nice, ever if some us veer more to a brighter palette.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see this was yours too but it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Brown can be a great color... not that I have much in my stash, but that does look great!
ReplyDeleteSEE - now do you believe me!!? CAN be used!!!
ReplyDeleteKelly I never thought I would see brown fabric on your blog but here it is - go on, admit it, it is a very nice cushion front! Sweetwater did a nice pale blue & brown line a bit like this a while ago (Pure?) which I have seen made into some lovely boy quilts. I know a rainbow girl like you will never be a convert but your SIL will love this lovely cushion. I'm sure you will be back to your rainbow magic in your next post!
ReplyDeleteIt is curiously pretty! I got that brown stack as well and thought to myself 'I'll never use this' but I can see I might have been wrong!
ReplyDeleteBrown! Hmmm - I like your design very much, and I hope your sister loves her cushion :)
ReplyDelete"...dull..." LOL! I kind of feel the same way but you managed to make it sparkle with those greys and text fabric!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for Hadley's comment! Anyway, I'm loving brown at the moment- your crosses are very warm and chocolatey!!!
ReplyDeleteYou make brown look great!! The greys and whites do a great job of warming them up. I love all the movement in the patterns on the fabrics too.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness me!
ReplyDeleteWhat the......????? Ok, step away from the brown.... I'm booking you an emergency psych consult for the use of the 'L' word in that last bit....,
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of brown but I definitely agree with Aison, brown on it's own can be very dull but it can really add some life when added (in small amounts) to other colours. Joel Dewberry, Sweetwater and countless other modern designers can't be wrong.
ReplyDeleteI know your SIL will love this cushion.
I'd say you give brown a whole new life! I love it!!
ReplyDeletei've got some brown going on in a quilt top I'm currently working on. It's weird! Great design - I think the grey makes it ;)
ReplyDeleteI understand your reluctance... I haven't used any of the brown FQ from the Pink Castle December stash, January is already half used up. I sincerely do not know what to to with brown fabrics. Maybe someone has the hitting idea how to put them into a "modern" quilt.
ReplyDeleteThere's brown fabric, then there's cool brown fabric and I love your cushion - it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice! Like a warm baked potato on a cold winter night :)
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love brown and am not ashamed to admit it! This will be a fab cushion! Jxo
ReplyDeleteOoh- I have a brown scatter back sofa on my OH isn't keen on the alternate flower pattern cushions so I might make some new covers just like this (even though the sofa is only a year old)! I'll have to show him your blog and see what he thinks.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT and I don't like those kind of colors either, unless of course it has a lot of blue with it. Hope you SIL loves it as much as I do.
